TENNIS RULES

General Tennis Rules
1. The tennis area is defined as the tennis courts and the gazebo, the walkway between the courts, the grass area
outside court 1 and around all the courts.

2. The tennis area is to be utilized solely for the purpose of playing tennis and those watching tennis. No ball
playing is allowed in the tennis area. (Ball-playing is restricted to the lower field near the playground area.)

3. Proper decorum will be observed in the tennis area.

4. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult in the tennis area if they are waiting to play.

5. It is strongly recommended that only tennis players should be on the court. Family members who are on the
court and not playing, may be asked to leave at any time if they are a distraction to the other tennis players in the
tennis area. This request can be made at the sole discretion of players on neighboring courts. The Director of
Tennis, Tennis Instructors or Club Manager must enforce that request.

6. If you are on the court and not playing, you must wear a shirt or cover up. No bare feet are allowed.

7. Trips to the tennis courts must be kept to a minimum. This can be distracting to the tennis players in the middle
of a match. Proper etiquette must be followed such as not talking loudly, waiting until a point is finished before
proceeding to your destination, etc. If the number of visits is distracting to the Members playing, they may ask the
Director of Tennis, Tennis Instructors or Club Manager to stop the visits until their match is over. If the request is
made, it must be enforced.

Tennis Attire
1. Every player must wear white tennis attire at all times on the tennis courts including proper tennis footwear.
Shirts must be at least 50% white. Men’s tennis shirts must have sleeves. Colored hats and warm-ups are
permitted. White T-shirts will be available in the Pro Shop if needed. Tennis shoes must be suitable for HarTru
Courts.

2. The Bailiwick Club’s Director of Tennis maintains the right to pre-empt any players’ time if proper attire is not
worn

Children on Tennis Courts
1. All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult on the tennis courts at all times.

2. Children between the ages 10-16 can only sign in for court time without adult supervision from 1-PM to 4PM on
weekdays.

3. At all other times, children between the ages 10-16 may use the courts only if they are not being used by adult
players. Any two adult players may ask children between the ages 10-16 to vacate their courts at any time except
weekdays from 1-4PM.

4. Two adults may play with children under 17 and cannot be asked to vacate their court (and only receive singles
hour)

5. After 1:00 on weekends, parents and children may play without risk of being asked to vacate.

Guests and Au Pairs on Tennis Courts
1. Bailiwick Club Members must register all guests and au pairs at the front desk.

2. Guests and au pairs may not sign up for tennis court time, only Members may.

3. Au pairs may not use the tennis courts unless signed in as a Guest.

4. On weekdays, guests may play at any time, except in a RESERVED game. If the game is reserved a guest may
play on Bailiwick courts starting at twelve o’clock noon, not before.

5. On weekends and holidays, guests may play on Bailiwick courts starting at twelve o’clock noon, not before. See

Tennis Court Time
1. Court time for singles play may not exceed one hour. Court time for doubles play may not exceed one hour and
fifteen minutes.

2. If during play, players are added or substituted, the finishing time of the original group shall remain unchanged.

3. Bailiwick Club’s Director of Tennis may overrule court time rules if deemed necessary to ensure the use of the
tennis courts for tournaments, team play and other Bailiwick Club organized tennis events.

Sign-In Procedure and Court Assignment
1. Players must sign in for court time on the tennis sign-in board near Court 1 to guarantee court use. Players who
do not sign in may be pre-empted by the group of players at the top of the waiting list portion of the sign-in board.

2. A player must be present at Bailiwick Club to sign in for court time and use.

3. Only Bailiwick Club Members may sign in for court time and use, guests may not.

4. All players must sign in for court time on the wait list portion of the tennis sign-in board near Court 1, if all the
courts are in use. The next available court shall be assigned in the order that players' names appear on the wait
list.

5. If your name is at the top of the tennis sign-in board wait list and it is called, you can either accept the next
available court or cede to the following name while keeping your name at the top of the list.

6. A player forfeits his or her turn if not nearby the courts when his or her name comes up. A player forfeits his or
her turn if he or she plays or fills in for another player while waiting for his or her turn.

Tennis Area First Aid
1. Whistles are provided on each court for use in case of an emergency. A tennis professional or lifeguard will
respond to the emergency call.

2. A defibrillator and first aid box is located in the pro shop and near the pool.
